Back in the spring Cookham’s president Jim Rosenthal thought there was a very real chance there’d be no community cricket played at all this summer due to COVID-19.

He’s delighted to have been proved wrong, but also impressed by the efforts of players, coaches, parents and volunteers to get matches and net sessions on at all levels of the club.

This month the club has created a montage, on display at the entrance to the club, to thank those who’ve made a difference in this most challenging of summers.

“I’ve been proved wrong,” he said. “And I’m delighted to have been proved wrong.

“The efforts we’ve had across the board, the amount of people who have been down there enjoying the facilities, it’s been a phenomenal effort since mid-July.

“But it also underlines the need for a club like this in the community. We want to have a good facility for everyone to enjoy. Honestly, kids, women, right the way through, it’s been outstanding. That’s why we’ve produced the montage which is just outside the ground.

“We’ve pulled through and I know a lot of other clubs couldn’t do nearly as much as we’ve done.

“The number of net sessions and games we’ve played, it’s been really good.”
