Slough RFC produce fine away display to shut out hosts Hungerford

Slough RFC produced one of their finest away displays of the season to shut out Hungerford for a 26-0 win on Saturday.

The Greenies’ fifth win of the season was earned with relative ease and sees them leapfrog Bletchley into sixth place.

Tomorrow (Saturday) they’re set to play their rearranged fixture at another of the Berks, Bucks & Oxon Premier strugglers, 11th placed Oxford. The game was postponed just prior to Christmas.

Saturday’s game started at a frenetic pace, with Slough’s forwards puncturing holes in the Hungerford defence from the first whistle.

The Greenies were making plenty of inroads, but in the opening phases they were guilty of trying to play rugby in the wrong areas.

However, the breakthrough was made in the 13th minute when a a fantastic take from Matteo Pascucci from a chip took the visitors over the game line. And some slick interplay between the forwards created the space to put Sam Rowe over in the corner.

Max Miles slotted the conversion to make it 7-0.

Slough’s second try was a carbon copy of the first, with Matty Collins crossing in the same corner. Miles added the extras to make it 14-0.

No further scores followed in the remainder of the half, but the Greenies were back on the front foot five minutes after the restart with Miles running through the middle of Hungerford’s defences.

Some quick recycling from Ben Foster saw him supply his third assist of the game to put Miles over in the corner. This time the conversion was missed.

There was still plenty of time for Slough to score a bonus point fourth try, when Rhys Amos picked up from the base of a scrum and fed Foster who charged over from 20 metres out.

Charlie Turner slotted the conversion to make the final score 26-0.
