REVIEW: Unexpected Tales by David Harper at Norden Farm

Antique expert, David Harper’s show Unexpected Tales is not so much about antiques but more about his life as a celebrity. I now know that he once sold dinner with Sir Alex Ferguson for the cost of an average house, knows how to smile for the camera (John Barrowman taught him) and that the public no longer knows what a good quality antique looks like! And he dyed his eyebrows, plucked his eyebrows, shaved his head – the list goes on – all for his TV break.

Although this is David's first major theatre tour he has taken to it like a duck to water. His show recently came to Norden Farm and my parents and I really enjoyed his show – even my Dad gave it the thumbs up. Praise indeed.

If you are interested in how TV shows are put together, how things can go wrong, the celebrities David has worked with, TV disasters, profits made in the antique world (and the even bigger losses), the fakes and the fabulous, he’s your man.

David is based in Teesdale, County Durham and I hope he will make the trip down to Norden Farm again next year. If he does, I will be there and I recommend you go too. His show was well worth prising my parents out of their homes for on a dark October night.
