King hopes for international competition after record-breaking debut season

Following a stunning season in Carrera Cup GB, newly crowned champion Harry King has reflected on a record-breaking debut and his aims for the future.

In a condensed season that ran from August to November last year, King made his mark as a phenomenal driver for Porsche.

Across 16 rounds, over eight exhilarating weekends, the then 18-year-old won 12 rounds and took seven of eight available pole positions, narrowly missing out on the last by 0.002 seconds in the adverse weather conditions at Brands Hatch.

To top it all, for many of those races King was forced to come from behind due to the reverse grid format.

Despite taking the championship title early, he continued to bolster his record and push for victories. Racking up a total of 167 points in total – a full 46 clear of his rival and teammate Josh Webster – King kept his foot on the gas right until the very end.

“Reflecting on our achievements last year it’s fair to say I’m pretty proud of what I’ve accomplished in a debut season in Porsche Carrera Cup,” he said.

“Going into a delayed start to the season in June, I knew I had a lot of pressure and expectation on my shoulders being a supported Porsche Junior Driver. I was very aware I was in the spotlight, so to speak, so right from the first round I had to perform.

“As the season progressed, myself and Team Parker Racing begun racking up the wins and championship points and I gained more and more confidence.

“I never really took a step back and looked at what I’d achieved until the very end of the season as I was so focused on nailing every single race weekend.

“It was pretty clear we’d had a very strong season taking 12 wins of 16 races which was something nobody has ever done before.

“We broke nearly every previous record along our way.”

On his future within motorsport, King added: “Moving forward into this year, I’m contracted to compete in another season of Carrera Cup GB as it is a two-year programme.

“But my focus is shifting more to international competition in Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup – the highest and most competitive tier of single make series.

“It’s there where you’ll really cut your teeth with the absolute best of the best.”
