Papplewick footballers take to the pitch in St Lucia

Footballers from an Ascot school swapped the classroom for the sandy beaches of St Lucia as they enjoyed an international football tour.

A team of 16 boys from Papplewick School, in Windsor Road, travelled to the Caribbean island and played six competitive matches.

After avoiding defeat in their first five games, the youngsters found themselves 4-0 down after 25 minutes in their final fixture against VSCAD club.

But a miraculous comeback saw them salvage a point from the game as they drew 4-4.

During the trip the Papplewick students also visited a foundation set up on the island by Premier League footballer Jermain Defoe.

Papplewick headteacher Tom Bunbury said: “To come away undefeated against some very strong sides is a real credit to this group of boys, who have had an outstanding football season.”
